A Message from Josh Wong

Hi, everyone! My name is Josh Wong, and I’m the founder and manager of MyClass. I graduated from Wesley College in 2021 and have been balancing my time as a Bachelor of Engineering and Commerce student at UWA with my role here at MyClass. But despite the busy schedule, building MyClass has been an amazing journey—one that I believe can genuinely brighten the academic paths of so many high-school students.

When I was in high school, I remember how challenging it could be to find the right tutor. I noticed that help from recent graduates—people who understood exactly what I was going through because they’d been there themselves—was always the most valuable. They knew the material inside and out, of course, but they also related to the everyday ups and downs of being a student. That insight stuck with me and inspired the idea behind MyClass.

Today, our goal remains straightforward: we want to make learning engaging and accessible for everyone, especially high-schoolers working through the demands of modern curricula. We match top-ranked graduates— each with a 95+ ATAR in their highest-performing subjects—to the students who need their experience the most. MyClass started out as a local network, essentially connecting a handful of tutors (my friends and classmates) with younger students through personal referrals. In that very first year, I realized how truly life-changing it can be when a student finds a tutor who’s not only academically accomplished but also empathetic—someone who really “gets” the high-school hustle.

As word spread, we decided to grow in our second year. We worked on thoroughly vetting each new tutor, streamlining online scheduling, and introducing flexible lesson formats (including both in-person and virtual, depending on the area and subject). Every step was aimed at simplifying that crucial first connection between a student and a tutor who’s just right for them.

By year three, MyClass had blossomed into a genuine educational platform. We continued to emphasize professional development for our tutors because even the brightest recent graduates can benefit from ongoing training in effective teaching methods.
